Principal Overstreet recently stopped by Lea Jarriel’s Anatomy & Physiology class with a big announcement…the Senior had been named Dublin High School's 2023-2024 STAR Student!
A STAR student is chosen each year by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators [PAGE] for achieving the highest single-sitting SAT score in the school and meeting other stringent academic requirements, such as maintaining a GPA in the top 10% of their class.
That student, in turn, can recognize the staff member who has most positively impacted their educational journey. Jarriel’s STAR Teacher is none other than Mrs. Danee' Brooks, the Dublin City Schools College and Career Academy’s CNA and Allied Health Instructor.
“I selected Mrs. Brooks as my STAR Teacher because, from the very first day of class, I just felt like I connected with her and knew I’d be able to talk with her not only about what was happening in my pathway but in my life,” said Jarriel. “She’s been a super helpful teacher, and I’m glad I had this chance to surprise her.”
In addition to excelling in the classroom, Jarriel is an Allied Health Pathway completer and member of The WAY Star Student Advisory Board. She also played softball for Lady Irish and is a Fighting Irish Wrestling Manager. Additionally, Jarriel is a REACH Scholar, meaning that she will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship for up to four years of college - $2500 per year - that can be used at any Georgia HOPE eligible two or four-year college.
Outside of Dublin High School, Jarriel works at Chick-fil-A Dublin.
Fighting Irish Family, join us in congratulating Lea and Mrs. Brooks for these outstanding accomplishments!
