Congratulations to one of Dublin High School’s newest alumni! On June 7th, Lea Jarriel from the Class of 2024 presented the keynote address during the Georgia School Boards Association’s Summer Conference. Lea spoke about the struggles she’s overcome, and how public education - specifically Dublin City Schools - supported her in becoming the first person in her family to attend college.
“I always felt the need to be the one to break the cycle. I wanted to be the one who went beyond what was expected of me…I wanted to be a role model to my nephews and niece, and raise the expectations, showing them that a high school diploma isn’t the farthest education possible,” she said.
The DHS Star Student and Honor Grad finished in the Top 10 in her class and is bound for Georgia Southern University. She plans to major in Computer Science, hoping to one day become an IT technician.
Focused on her future, “in four years, I will successfully be the first person in my family to receive a college degree,” she said. “None of that would’ve been possible without a great group of people pushing me. All thanks go to Dublin City Schools for giving me the opportunity to reach my fullest potential. Even though my time at Dublin High is over, it will always be the place I call home!”
Fighting Irish Family, join us in celebrating this stellar young woman! We couldn't be more proud of Lea and can't wait to see all she accomplishes.
