Dr. Williams and school leaders from Hillcrest Elementary School and the Irish Gifted Academy gathered to celebrate the hard work and growth of our current IGA 4th and 5th graders. Because IGA is a Program of Choice and not a standalone school, each child’s Milestones scores are tied to either Hillcrest Elementary or Susie Dasher Elementary. This means our IGA students’ literacy growth helped contribute to Hillcrest Elementary earning its Literacy Leader recognition from the Georgia Department of Education!
As shared, Hillcrest was honored based on the following Georgia Milestones criteria:
3rd Grade Gateway Growth: Substantial improvement in the percentage of 3rd Grade students reading at or above grade level, meeting or exceeding growth targets set by the Georgia Milestones Reading Status indicators.
4th Grade Growth: Demonstrating rigorous growth standards in 4th Grade reading proficiency, qualifying for additional recognition.
IGA Principal Matt Taylor reflected on today’s celebration, emphasizing the power of unity across our schools: “As a program, it’s important to have that connectivity and collaboration across our system, knowing that our program ties back to their base school. Having our students see that today was a beautiful thing. It’s not just about our campus, but the role every student and staff member across Dublin City Schools plays in contributing to our district’s success.”
The celebration was a testament to the dedication of our students, teachers, and leadership teams who work tirelessly to support literacy growth across the district. It served as a reminder that success is a team effort, and every student’s hard work contributes to our district’s accomplishments!
